5 questions you should ask yourself before buying an aluminium door.
What are the properties of the outer layer?
The outer layer might be called the skin of the door. It must be able to easily withstand not just rain, snow and frost, but also strong sunlight and temperature fluctuations. Outer layers made of OBUKALUMINIUM® consist of two aluminium plates of 1.5 mm thickness each. In the case of the leaf concealing version, the outer aluminium plate is even 3 mm thick. And in the case of the milled aluminium models, both the internal and external outer layers are each 3 mm thick. Offering perfect protection each time – including protection against unwanted visitors. The material can cope with temperatures ranging from -20°C to +80°C without any problems. This is assured by testing each door panel under the widest range of weather conditions in the climate chamber.
What are the capabilities of the insulating core?
The composition of the insulating core determines how much heat is retained in the home and how much cold can penetrate. Various materials can be used to ensure the hot and cold insulation. We use the very best quality materials to manufacture our insulating core to achieve the best possible insulation (U value: 1.2 W/sqm K). The use of rigid foam guarantees maximum compression and bending strength and stability, and ensures that the door keeps moving smoothly. The insulating material prevents the absorption of moisture and at the same time ensures consistently high levels of dimensional stability. Even at extreme temperatures.
What is the ornamental frame capable of withstanding?
Climate influences can cause the formation of cracks and changes to conventional ornamental frames. We weld every ornamental frame homogeneously to the surface of the base plate. The materials we use are perfectly matched to each other. Cracks occurring as a result of mechanical stress or temperature changes are prevented. Ornamental frames from OBUK are attached to the inside of the door using a double plug connection. The advantage: easy replacement of the glass if necessary. And the ornamental frames are surface cleaned prior to varnishing to ensure that the varnish retains its superior appearance for as long as possible. Differences also exist in the case of wood decor ornamental frames: These models offer a strikingly attractive, natural, hand-painted wood texture and open-pore appearance, setting real standards once more.
What quality does the surface coating offer?
The colouring material plays a crucial role, especially when coating surfaces. It not only has to be light-fast but also protected against the widest range of weather conditions. In addition, the colour must precisely match the cover frame, leaves and panel. Here again, we set real standards and guarantee the highest levels of quality. Classic problems, such as varnish runs and tears, drip edges, blisters and bubbles, dirt entrapment, scratches and ghost lines are avoided. A coloured primer is applied to ensure the particular quality of coloured panels. This really brings out the pigmentation of the top coat. To prevent any colour shining through ornamental wooden frames, they are primed in a dark colour, even on the back. Moreover, all RAL colours can produce a multi-coloured effect on different materials. So rest assured that opting for us is always the right choice – and that includes the surface. Because we manufacture by hand and apply genuine craftsmanship.
What is the glazing able to withstand?
Glass is a sensitive material. If not treated correctly, ugly stress cracks can appear within the door panel. Our manufacturing process focuses on ensuring that the pane is firmly anchored in the glass cut-out while at the same time avoiding any contact with the panel. This virtually eliminates the risk of any glass damage. All of the commonly used types of insulating glass are processed, such as ornamental glass, stained glass, enamel glass and special types of glass. The insulating glass we use complies with the German standard. Proof that we are setting real standards in this area too.
